How long should I plan to stay in Houston after surgery?

The length of your stay will depend on the procedure you're having and your surgeon's recommendations. Most out-of-town patients remain in Houston for several days to a week after surgery to attend early follow-up appointments before traveling home. Your surgeon will provide personalized guidance based on your treatment plan.

Can I fly home after surgery?

Yes. Many patients travel home by air after surgery. The timing will depend on your procedure, your recovery progress, and your surgeon's recommendations. Before you leave Houston, your surgeon will let you know when it's safe to travel and provide instructions to help make your trip home as comfortable as possible.

Do I need someone to travel with me?

For most surgical procedures, you'll need a responsible adult to accompany you and assist during the first 24 to 48 hours after surgery. If you're traveling alone, our team can discuss additional recovery support options, including a home care visit, in-home nursing, and overnight caregiving services, to help make your recovery as comfortable as possible.

Are virtual consultations and follow-up appointments available?

Many of our surgeons offer virtual consultations before surgery, as well as virtual follow-up appointments when appropriate. This allows many out-of-town patients to stay connected with their care team before and after traveling to Houston. Depending on your procedure and recovery, some follow-up visits may still need to be completed in person.

What should I pack for my recovery?

We recommend bringing loose, comfortable clothing, any prescribed medications, personal toiletries, and other essentials to help you feel comfortable during your stay. Your surgical team will provide detailed preoperative instructions, including any procedure-specific recommendations, before your trip to Houston.
